Tambopata Tour Itinerary - Amazon Expedition

DAY 1: WELCOME TO THE AMAZON:

Reception at Puerto Maldonado Airport and transfer to Hotel Wasai Maldonado Lodge, where you will receive our welcome with a delicious cocktail or tropical juice. Boarding and crossing for approximately 3 and 1/2 to 4 hours along the Tambopata River, to the lodge. Depending on the time of arrival of the flight, the transfer can be from the port on the Madre de Dios River or a stretch by road for about an hour to the port on the Tambopata River and then continue for 2 and 1/2 to 3 hours by boat to the lodge. During the trip, on the banks of the Tambopata River, we will initially observe the colonist farms and birds of various species; As we move away from the populated area we can see virgin forests with more Amazonian fauna, such as families of Ronsocos (capybaras), the largest rodents in the world, river turtles, exotic birds and other surprises offered by the jungle. Box lunch on board during the crossing. Reception, accommodation in the bungalows of the Lodge. After a short break, we will take a short walk and have an introductory talk about the forests of the Amazon in the jungle surrounding the lodge. After dinner we will make a nocturnal hike to the forest to observe and hear insects, bats, frogs and maybe, have some occasional encounter with other nocturnal mammals. Overnight at the hostel. The different sounds of the jungle will accompany our first night. Overnight at Wasai Tambopata Lodge

DAY 2: AMAZON TREKS:

At dawn we will cross the Tambopata River to take a walk through the Reserve until we reach the shore of a small nearby tributary; here you can see hundreds of parakeets eating mineral salts in a clay wall. On the way it is possible to meet groups of monkeys and other animals, you can also see other interesting exotic birds such as toucans as well as plants and insects. After breakfast you can rest in the beautiful surroundings of the lodge, fish or swim in the river or in the beautiful waterfalls of the Gato River (those wishing to fish should notify their guide in advance to have the equipment and bait ready). In the afternoon we will begin our journey of 1 hour upriver to the control post of Bahuaja Sonene National Park; we will arrive late afternoon, where our camp will be set up on the banks of the river. While the camp is set up, we can help with assembling or make a short walk along a nearby path. We will observe the sunset and we will be able to refresh ourselves with a bath in the river or if you prefer you can fish some of the varied aquatic fauna. At night, if the weather permits, we will light a bonfire and enjoy the stars and sounds of the jungle. Overnight camping on the banks of the Tambopata River.

DAY 3: LOROS AND GUACAMAYOS CLAY LICK:

It is usual to wake up with the sound of howler monkeys in the early morning, then the birds and parakeets that fly through the red morning sky. Before leaving we will have a coffee or tea. The journey on this remote stretch of the Tambopata River runs through areas of high biodiversity offering unbeatable opportunities to see birds and animals such as capybara, jaguar, turtles and alligators in places of extraordinary natural beauty. After 20 minutes we will arrive at the place called Colpa Chunchos where we observe at a prudent distance, different species of macaws (8) and many species of parrots and parakeets congregate in increasing numbers and then descend to eat the mineral salts present in the clay walls from the banks of the river. This is a natural spectacle of sound and color that lasts only a few hours very early in the morning (those who want to take close-up photos of the macaws- we recommend 400mm powerful lenses). Then we will have a light breakfast on the beach followed by a short walk through the forest looking for mammal tracks, observing birds and animals. At the end of the hike, we will begin the return downstream of the Tambopata River to the eco lodge, where we will arrive shortly before lunch. In the afternoon you can walk, lie down in a hammock, go fishing or swim or visit a local plantation to learn more about the life and rural economy of the inhabitants of the Amazon. After dinner we will take a boat ride to see close alligators in the surroundings of the Eco Lodge.

DAY 4: SANDOVAL LAKE:

We will have breakfast and then we will start the trip back along the Tambopata River, downstream towards Puerto Maldonado. Depending on the time, the last section may be made by land from the Ese'Eja community. We will arrive at Wasai Maldonado Lodge in the middle of the morning where after settling in the accommodation, we can look for the sloths that live freely in the lodge, or enjoy a dip in the pool before lunch. In the afternoon we will navigate the Madre de Dios River for 30 minutes and then we will walk through the forest a stretch of approximately 3 km towards the tranquil and beautiful Lake Sandoval, considered by specialized magazines as one of the most beautiful in the Amazon. The hike offers a good opportunity to observe monkeys, birds and other animals. In the lake, the guide will paddle in a small wooden canoe looking for giant otters, birds such as Hoatzin and Aningha (water turtles), etc. On the way back, we will walk along the same path until we reach the river at sunset; then we will embark on the boat that awaits us in the Madre de Dios River. The sunset clouds are impressive in this part of the jungle. We will have a half hour trip to the lodge in Puerto Maldonado, where we will have the farewell meal and spend the last night in the Amazon. At night we will have free time to explore the picturesque streets of Puerto Maldonado and enjoy the joy of its people.

DAY 5: TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT:

After breakfast we will have free time until the time of transfer to Puerto Maldonado Airport for your trip to Cuzco or Lima. End of the service, ending this tour Amazon expedition - alto Tambopata of 5 days.
