DESCRIPTION

Cajamarca is a Peruvian city located on the eastern edge of the western chain of the Andes, in the inter-Andean valley formed by the Mashcón and Chonta rivers. At an altitude of 2,750 meters above sea level, it is known for its rich history, including the capture of the Inca Atahualpa during the conquest of Peru in 1532. Additionally, Cajamarca stands out for its colonial architecture, ornate churches, and thermal baths. The city is famous for its Carnival celebration, as well as other religious festivities such as Corpus Christi and Holy Week.

LOCATION

Located 784 km north of the city of Lima, in the western chain of the Andes.

ATTRACTIONS

Among the main attractions of Cajamarca are the Ransom Room, where the Inca Atahualpa was captured, and the Cumbemayo archaeological complex, known for its impressive stone aqueducts. Other highlights include the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral of Cajamarca, and the Santa Apolonia hill viewpoint, which offers a panoramic view of the city. The Inca Baths are another point of interest, offering thermal waters with healing properties.
