Our tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas begins with a pickup from your hotel at approximately 7:00 AM. We will embark on a one-hour journey to Pisac, admiring the beauty of the Sacred Valley along the way and learning about its historical and modern significance.
We will continue to the archaeological site of Pisac, located above the town. Here, you’ll see how local inhabitants use ancient Inca agricultural techniques to cultivate the mountain slopes, achieving optimal productivity. Next, we’ll visit the Pisac artisan market, a vibrant and colorful place offering a variety of handmade crafts for purchase. Around noon, we’ll enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at a tourist restaurant in the Urubamba Valley.
After lunch, we’ll head to Ollantaytambo, located 76 km from Cusco. Here, we will observe large carved stone blocks, some weighing over 100 tons, that were transported to this mountain for astronomical purposes. This remarkable feat continues to amaze people worldwide. Ollantaytambo is strategically positioned at the intersection of three valleys and serves as a gateway to the jungle, following the river’s course to Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Ollantaytambo features strategic control points, making it a fortified archaeological site.
Furthermore, Ollantaytambo is recognized as the “Best Tourist Town in the World”. It is often described as a city frozen in time due to its Inca-Colonial urban layout, featuring advanced hydraulic engineering that distributes water through canals running along its streets while maintaining its original landscape.
On our return to Cusco, we will visit Chinchero, located northwest of the city. During the time of the Tahuantinsuyo, the Inca ruler Tupac Yupanqui planned the construction of palaces for the elite. Today, the remains of the palace can be observed, upon which the colonial church was built. Chinchero preserves ancient agricultural traditions, cultivating a variety of Andean potatoes and maintaining the art of weaving with Inca iconography and symbolism. It holds significance as a key destination for travelers.
The tour concludes at approximately 6:30 PM in Cusco, after having enjoyed this unforgettable experience of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
