The Maras and Moray tour is a favorite among travelers, offering the chance to explore the landscapes, experiences, and attractions of these towns.
We will pick you up from your hotel around 7:30 AM and take you on a one-hour journey to visit Moray. This site is considered an Inca agricultural laboratory because of its circular terraces, which were used to cultivate and produce various crops.
Next, we will head to Maras (Villa San Francisco de Asís de Maras), the region’s primary supplier of salt. Here, you’ll witness the remarkable ingenuity and skill of the Incas in extracting this mineral, known as the 'white gold of the Andes.'
The district of Maras was a mandatory stop for muleteers transporting tropical products, especially coca leaves, from the high jungle to Cusco (Qosqo).

To begin our Moray and Maras Salt Mines Tour, we’ll pick you up from your hotel around 7:30 AM and head to Moray and the Maras salt mines in our private transportation. Along the way, you’ll enjoy beautiful Andean landscapes filled with trees and wildlife.
Our first stop will be the Moray archaeological site, located 38 km from the city of Cusco. Moray is considered an Inca agricultural laboratory, featuring terraces arranged in concentric circles. It consists of four circular platforms, with the deepest point reaching 80 meters and the lowest terrace measuring 36 meters in diameter.
Next, we will visit the Maras salt mines, which consist of around 3,000 small pools, each producing approximately 50 to 80 kilograms of salt per season. These pools are fed by an underground salty spring, and the process takes about two months to fill each pool. Maras salt is highly sought after, with the finest variety being pink mineral salt, known for its medicinal properties. Don’t forget to purchase some salt products during your visit!
Undoubtedly, both of these places hold rich history and fascinating facts that our guide will share with you along the way. After exploring these spectacular sites, we’ll board our transportation and return to the city of Cusco. The tour will conclude around 2:00 p.m., bringing our Moray and Maras Salt Mines Tour to an end.
