View tourCuscoPeru.com invites you to experience the Salkantay trek 5 days, a hike through high mountain landscapes, cloud forests, and ancient Inca paths on the way to Machu Picchu. The route passes through Soraypampa, Humantay Lake, Salkantay Pass, Chaullay, Lucmabamba, and Llactapata, where you can enjoy a different view of the landscape surrounding the Inca city.
The Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu 5 days begins with an early pickup in Cusco and a drive to Challacancha. On the first day, you hike to Soraypampa and visit Humantay Lake. Day two is the most demanding, with an ascent to Salkantay Pass at approximately 4,650 meters followed by a descent into the cloud forest and the campsite at Chaullay.
During the trek, the landscape changes to a warmer environment with fruit trees, coffee, and cacao. The third night is spent in Lucmabamba, a community surrounded by coffee plantations and tropical vegetation, where you can learn about local agricultural traditions. The following day, you hike along a section of an ancient Inca trail to Llactapata and continue to Hydroelectric. From there, you can walk for approximately three hours to Aguas Calientes or choose the optional train at an additional cost.
This 5 day Salkantay trek ends with a guided visit to Machu Picchu and the return to Cusco. It is a strenuous route with long hikes, changing weather conditions, three nights of camping, and one night in Aguas Calientes. We recommend arriving properly acclimatized and bringing suitable trekking gear.

They were punctual, attentive to me at all times, and there was always someone willing to help with any questions I had. During the trek, I felt very well supported by the guides, who were kind, attentive, and highly professional. The landscapes of Salkantay, the effort of the hike, and the excitement of finally reaching Machu Picchu made the trip truly unique. I am sure I will choose this agency again on my next visit to Peru.
