The tour begins with pick-up from your hotel at around 6:00 a.m.
On this journey, you’ll visit the Sistine Chapel of the Americas in Andahuaylillas, a 17th-century church renowned for the beauty of its murals, gold-leaf details, and paintings from the Cusco School.
Your next stop is the Raqchi archaeological complex, known for its impressive adobe structures and the precise urban planning of this archaeological site.
At midday, you’ll have lunch and then continue to a key stop at the boundary between Cusco and Puno, known as the La Raya Pass (Abra La Raya). Surrounded by the Peruvian Andes and snow-capped mountains, it’s an excellent spot for photos. Along the Route of the Sun toward Puno, you’ll also visit Pucará, where the pre-Columbian Pucará culture developed between 100 BC and 300 AD, noted for its pottery, pyramid-like structures, and hydraulic works.
Finally, you’ll arrive in the city of Puno, home to Lake Titicaca—the highest navigable lake in the world—where the tour ends.

The journey starts in the city of Cusco, departing at 6:40 a.m. Then you’ll arrive in Andahuaylillas, where you’ll stop to visit this traditional town located 36 kilometers from Cusco. This place is known for the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas,” whose interior features art-filled paintings from floor to ceiling, with remarkable decorations and gold-leaf ornaments.
At 10:30 a.m., you’ll arrive at the archaeological site of Raqchi, a stone-and-adobe complex known for its large and intricate archaeological area. The highlight is the Temple of Wiracocha, set on an esplanade divided into two naves with gigantic columns and walls that reach up to 92 meters (302 ft) in height. Your visit will last approximately 40 minutes.
At midday, you’ll stop for a buffet lunch and then continue to the La Raya Pass, the highest point of the trip at 4,335 m a.s.l. (14,222 ft). Here you’ll be treated to beautiful landscapes of the Peruvian Andes and their snow-capped mountains. It’s a great spot for photos and to breathe in the crisp high-Andean air.
Next, you’ll continue to the Pucará Lithic Museum. Here you can explore and admire a collection of stelae and monoliths of various sizes, as well as pottery, textiles, and cultural artifacts recovered from the Pucará archaeological site—offering a fascinating look into this pre-Columbian civilization.
Finally, you’ll be amazed by the city of Puno, home to Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. You’ll arrive at around 6:30 p.m. This is how your Route of the Sun tour ends—Cusco: Andahuaylillas, Raqchi, La Raya, Pucará, and Puno.
