Rock climbing Cusco: climbing and rappelling in Chacán

This rock climbing Cusco experience takes place in the Chacán area and combines an introduction to climbing with rappelling practice on natural rock walls. The tour lasts approximately five hours and includes hotel pickup, private roundtrip transportation, a professional guide, technical equipment, a safety briefing and a box lunch.

The activity begins with an explanation of the equipment and basic exercises before moving to a practice wall. The guide supervises each stage and adjusts the instructions to the participants' level. Specific climbing grades or routes should not be promised until the operator confirms the climbing sector, rock conditions and travelers' experience.

This Cusco rock climbing activity is intended for travelers who want to add a physical half-day experience to their stay. Although the program includes introductory practice, climbing and rappelling involve inherent risks. Participants must follow the guide's instructions and disclose before booking any limitation that could affect their participation.

Highlights

  • Climbing and rappelling on natural rock walls in Chacán.
  • Private service from 2 passengers, according to the published rate.
  • Hotel pickup and private roundtrip transportation.
  • Equipment explanation and safety briefing before the activity.
  • Basic exercises to become familiar with the harness, rope and descent system.
  • Technical equipment and box lunch included.

Cusco climbing itinerary

Hotel pickup is published at approximately 8:30 a.m., with departure toward Chacán at around 9:00 a.m. The return to Cusco is estimated at approximately 2:00 p.m. Exact times depend on the hotel location, traffic, weather and the pace of the activity.

Hotel pickup

The team coordinates pickup from the traveler's hotel in Cusco. Participants should be ready at the confirmed time, carry a light backpack and disclose in advance any relevant condition or restriction for a physical activity at altitude.

Transportation to Chacán

Private transportation takes participants from Cusco to the community of Chacán in Anta province. The full itinerary describes the drive as approximately 40 minutes. Along the route, travelers can see Andean landscapes, cultivated fields and rural areas near the city.

The current short description also says the site is 10 minutes away. This detail must be corrected after confirming the exact operating location.

Arrival and activity overview

At the climbing sector, the guide explains the sequence of the activity, identifies the waiting areas and checks the conditions of the site. Before handling the equipment, participants receive instructions on moving safely near the wall and on behavior during the climbing and rappelling maneuvers.

Equipment fitting

The published equipment list includes a rope, harness, helmet and climbing shoes. The full itinerary also mentions quickdraws and safety carabiners. The guide fits the equipment and explains the purpose of each item before the activity begins.

Participants should not alter the system, remove the helmet or handle ropes and anchors without permission. Travelers who want to use personal equipment must ask in advance so the operator can determine whether it is suitable for the activity.

Safety briefing and basic exercises

The guide provides a safety briefing followed by simple exercises covering body position, harness use, communication and basic movement during ascent or descent.

This stage allows each traveler to become familiar with the equipment before approaching the main wall. The guide may modify the program based on the participant's level, rock conditions and weather.

Climbing and rappelling practice

The page describes an introductory practice on a wall of approximately 25 meters. Participants complete climbing and descent exercises under the guide's supervision, with pauses to review technique and check the equipment.

The route grade and exact number of climbs are not published. Those details should only be added after receiving confirmed operational information.

Main rappel

After the practice, participants move to the main descent on a higher wall. The current page gives two different heights: 30 and 40 meters. Until the correct measurement is confirmed, the public copy should avoid stating an exact height or explain that it may vary according to the sector used that day.

Each participant must wait for the guide's signal, maintain the instructed position and follow directions throughout the descent. The guide makes the final decision on participation and continuation according to the site conditions.

Box lunch and preparation for the return

After the activity, the team checks and stores the equipment. A box lunch is included. Vegetarian, vegan, allergy-friendly or other dietary options must be requested when booking.

Tudo perfeito Eu e meu marido adoramos o passeio.

Cusco & Machu Picchu It was very well done. CuscoPeru did a fantastic job with my tour. Efrain picked me up on time at the airport. Both Julio and Henry did a great job with super information the first 2 days. The buffet lunch the tour provided was top shelf, including sushi. On day 3 Eddy did a wonderful job explaining all of Machu Picchu. My tour was for Circuit 1, but he somehow managed to get me on Circuit 3 as well. It was a day I will never forget. All hotel accommodations were very comfortable. I would recommend this tour to anyone

Highly recommended The trip was great! Our driver Roselito picked us up from the hotel and was very knowledgeable in the history of region, took us on the scenic route. Once we got on the train, it included snacks and drinks (water, coffee, or tea). Once we got to Aguascalientes, we were met by our tour guide Renato and Norma. Norma made sure we met our tour guide Renato, and made sure we got on the bus. Once we arrived at the entrance of Machu Pichu, we were met by our tour guide Renato. It was a pleasant experience. Pictures don’t do the site justice. Our tour guide Renato gave us an overview of the site and significance of the layout. I highly recommend booking with the company, and if possible make sure you get Roselito as your driver from Cusco to the train station.

Fun and exciting! I had a custom 9-day tour. I told the booking agents the things I wanted see and do in Peru and they came up with an itinerary. I really enjoyed all the day trips and when I needed to make an adjustment during the tour, Efrain (my coordinator) was right on it. He was always available to answer my questions, which really made me feel comfortable travelling alone. Also, the tour guides and drivers were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend CuscoPeru to anyone who wants interesting/fun tours and/or needs a little assistance in planning what to do!
