We will travel from Cusco to Machu Picchu one day tour, to learn about the history, architecture and beauty of this Wonder...
View tourAt CuscoPeru.com, we invite you to discover Piuray Lagoon, a natural setting near Cusco where you can enjoy the scenery, the quiet water, and an accessible outdoor activity. During this Lake Piuray tour, you will have time to learn how to use the kayak, become comfortable with the equipment, and see the Andean surroundings from the water.
The journey leaves Cusco and passes through Poroy, Cachimayo, and the Chinchero area before reaching the lagoon. A professional guide will accompany you, explain how to paddle, and provide the safety equipment. Once on the water, the group will follow a section close to shore while learning about Piuray's geography, flora, and fauna. Depending on the conditions, you may also see birds, fish, or local people fishing.
This kayaking Piuray Lagoon experience lasts about five hours, including round-trip transport. It suits travelers who want to leave the city for a morning, spend time outdoors, and return to Cusco at approximately 2:00 PM. The final timing may change with traffic, weather, and navigation conditions.
Day 1
Our team will arrange pickup from your hotel at approximately 8:30 AM. Before the tour, you will receive confirmation of the time and pickup zone. If your accommodation is outside the regular area or on a street with restricted vehicle access, we will give you a nearby meeting point or explain the available transfer option.
The drive to Piuray usually takes about one hour, although traffic can affect the journey. Eat breakfast before departure because meals are not included. Bring a light daypack with water, sun protection, a towel, and dry clothes.
Journey through Poroy, Cachimayo, and Chinchero
We will leave the city and continue through Poroy, Cachimayo, and the Chinchero area. Along the road, you can see cultivated fields, eucalyptus trees, and small Andean communities. On a clear day, the wider landscape may include mountain and snow-capped peak views.
The current page mentions a visit to a handicraft and weaving workshop in Chinchero, but your booking confirmation must state this stop for it to be included. If the textile visit is important to you, ask us before booking and we will check the operation for your travel date.
Arrival at Piuray and safety preparation
We expect to reach the lagoon at approximately 9:30 AM. At the activity area, the guide will explain the plan, assess the water conditions, and distribute the equipment. You will receive a kayak, paddle, life jacket, helmet, and windbreaker.
Before entering the water, the guide will show you how to hold the paddle, keep your balance, move forward, turn, and respond to instructions. Tell the guide if this is your first time or if you need extra assistance entering or leaving the kayak.
Kayaking Piuray Lagoon
After the safety check, the group will enter the water. The route follows a section near the shore, and the pace will depend on the group and the lagoon's conditions. The guide will remain attentive and provide directions throughout the activity.
As you paddle, you will learn about Piuray's natural and geographical setting. Birds, fish, and people fishing with nets or lines may be visible, although wildlife and local activity cannot be guaranteed. There will also be time to slow down and appreciate the quiet landscape while remaining inside the area indicated by the guide.
Leaving the water and changing
After completing the paddling section, we will return to the starting point. The team will assist with disembarking and collecting the equipment. Splashes can wet your clothing or shoes, so bring a towel, sandals, and a dry change of clothes.
Changing facilities depend on the operator and departure date and should be confirmed before the tour. For convenience, arrive with swimwear under your sports clothes and carry a separate bag for wet items.
Return to Cusco
We will begin the return drive after the activity. Arrival at your hotel in Cusco is planned for approximately 2:00 PM, but this is an estimated time. Weather, traffic, and safety decisions on the water may alter the schedule.
Leave a comfortable margin if you have a flight, train, or another booked activity later that day. Our team will confirm the final drop-off arrangement before departure.

Recommendations
We took the kayak tour on Piuray Lagoon, and it was a very enjoyable experience from the very beginning. The organization was excellent, and everything ran on time. Before getting into the water, we received the necessary instructions to feel safe and, little by little, we began paddling while enjoying the tranquility of the lagoon and the Andean landscapes surrounding it. Being out on the water, away from the movement of the city, allowed us to admire the scenery from a completely different perspective.
During the 5-hour tour, the team looked after us and accompanied us with great kindness. We enjoyed every moment and took home a special memory of Piuray. We are grateful to CuscoPeru.com for the organization and the attention we received. A highly recommended experience!
