June holds special significance for the people of Cusco, as it was chosen by the Incas to celebrate the most important festival of the Tahuantinsuyo—the grand religious ceremony of the Inti Raymi, filled with mysticism, color, and tradition. To this day, Cusco continues to celebrate this festival every June 24th. This all-inclusive Inti Raymi Tour is crafted for you to fully enjoy Cusco's most important celebration, the Inti Raymi.
Every June 24th, when the sun is at its farthest point from Earth, the Inti Raymi, or “Festival of the Sun”, is celebrated. It is an ancient Andean religious ceremony in honor of Inti (the Sun God) that takes place on the winter solstice. The Inti Raymi was the most important religious festival during the time of the Incas, and today, this ancient ceremony is still performed, with the main stage being the architectural complex of Sacsayhuaman. The Inti Raymi lasts nearly a full day, starting at 7:00 a.m. and ending around 4:00 p.m.
Early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel to visit the Temple of Qoricancha and witness this ancient “Festival of the Sun,” where you can appreciate the start of one of Peru's most significant celebrations. You will witness the Imperial procession and the unique energy as the Inca emerges, welcoming people from around the world to participate in this festival, declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation, an Official Act, and the Principal Ritual Ceremony of National Identity in 2001 through Law No. 27431.
Afterward, accompanied by your group and our guide, we will proceed to Cusco's Main Square, where the Inca enters through Calle Loreto, an ancient street lined with Inca walls and rich in history. Upon entering Waqaypata (Cusco's Main Square), the Inca performs the coca leaf ceremony with his wife, the Qoya, and his entourage, inviting the public to proceed to the Sacsayhuaman esplanade. There, you will enjoy a detailed view of this impressive Andean festival from a grandstand, witnessing sacred rituals in honor of the Sun God, along with traditional dances, music, and attire, creating an unforgettable experience.
Experience firsthand the majesty of this Inca ritual in honor of the sun, where history comes alive before your eyes. Don't miss the opportunity to be part of a tradition that connects the past and present.
