Our 7 Lakes Ausangate Full-Day Tour offers a unique opportunity to explore rural paths and discover stunning lakes of varying colors and shades, formed by the glacial melt of the Ausangate Mountain.
The tour also includes time to relax in the Pacchanta hot springs, where you can unwind and admire the majestic surrounding mountains. To complete the experience, you’ll enjoy an authentic Andean lunch prepared by local families, who will warmly welcome you into their homes, sharing their traditions and hospitality.
On this tour, we will pick you up at 4:00 AM to explore one of the newest tourist circuits in Cusco: the 7 Lakes Trek. This journey takes us 3 hours and 30 minutes southeast of Cusco to the town of Pacchanta, located at 4,200 meters above sea level.
In the past, only those trekking to the Ausangate Mountain would visit this area, but today it has become a popular destination for travelers seeking stunning rural paths and vibrant lakes of varying colors and shades, formed by the glacial melt of the majestic Apu Ausangate.
The trek covers approximately 5 hours and takes us through breathtaking landscapes of moderate difficulty. Along the way, you will encounter alpacas, llamas, vizcachas (Andean chinchillas), huallatas (Andean geese), foxes, caranchos (Andean hawks), yanaricos (Andean marsh ravens), and more.
We will return to Pacchanta around 1:00 PM, where you can relax in the therapeutic hot springs before enjoying a delicious lunch prepared with local Andean products.
If you have acclimated properly to the altitude, the reward for this effort will be an unforgettable experience in a pristine natural setting untouched by modern civilization.

To start our tour, we will pick you up at 4:00 AM from your hotel in Cusco and travel south by car for approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to the town of Pacchanta, located at 4,200 meters above sea level. This town was once visited only by experienced adventurers trekking across the Ausangate mountain range. Today, however, Pacchanta has become a popular destination, attracting travelers who not only explore the 7 lagoons but also enjoy its hot springs.
The 5-hour hike through scenic landscapes is of moderate difficulty. Along the way, you’ll encounter alpacas, llamas, vizcachas (Andean chinchillas), huallatas (Andean geese), foxes, caranchos (Andean hawks), yanaricos (Andean marsh ravens), and other native species. This trek offers not only breathtaking views, but also the chance to learn about the rich biodiversity of the Peruvian Andes.
Pucacocha Lagoon – 4,500 meters: The first lagoon on the tour, Pucacocha, has a reddish color due to iron-rich sediments. Oval-shaped and covering approximately 2 square kilometers, this lagoon offers a great photo opportunity. Our guide will share local legends and stories about this special place.
Patacocha Lagoon – 4,860 meters: Known for its crystal-clear waters, Patacocha provides spectacular views, with Ausangate Mountain in the background and Callangate Mountain to the side.
Alqacocha Lagoon – 4,750 meters: This smaller lagoon has a reddish hue, also due to iron content. Located at a high altitude, the weather can be cold, so dress warmly. You might even spot wild vicuñas roaming nearby.
Qomercocha Lagoon – 4,666 meters: Qomercocha is a turquoise-colored lagoon with a rectangular shape, covering an area of approximately 2 square kilometers. Our guide will explain the geology and biodiversity of the area and the factors behind the lagoon’s vivid color.
Orco Otorongo Lagoon – 4,570 meters: This lagoon's waters are reminiscent of a jaguar’s fur—in fact, the name “Orco Otorongo” translates to “male jaguar.” Although smaller than the others, it is one of the most intriguing stops on the circuit.
China Otorongo Lagoon – 4,600 meters: Located near Orco Otorongo, this lagoon is named after the female jaguar (“China Otorongo”) and boasts a greenish tint in its waters.
Azulcocha Lagoon – 4,550 meters: The final lagoon on our route, Azulcocha, is known for its deep blue waters. Surrounded by impressive mountain scenery, it is a favorite spot for visitors to take photographs.
We will return to Pacchanta around 1:00 PM, where you can relax in the medicinal thermal pools before enjoying a delicious Andean meal.
